During May 16-20, 2022, the Climate Smart Lab team had an exciting opportunity to explore the entire island of Prince Edward Island, thanks to the initiative and leadership of Dr. Xander Wang. This immersive journey across the island allowed the team to engage with local communities, fostering a deeper understanding of the region’s climate challenges and resilience efforts.
The journey began in the East region, where the team explored the coastline and key ecological sites to learn about ongoing climate adaptation strategies. They then moved to the Central region, where agricultural practices and land management were the focus of discussions, followed by a visit to the West region to examine coastal erosion and the impact of rising sea levels. The team then moved to the Down East region, where they were able to connect with communities vulnerable to extreme weather events and learn more about local efforts to build climate resilience. Throughout the trip, the Climate Smart Lab team gathered valuable data and insights that would contribute to their ongoing research and their mission to develop climate-smart solutions for the region.
