This story is inspired by the impacts of Hurricane Fiona on Prince Edward Island. The book follows Little Mike as he experiences a powerful storm on his grandparents’ farm. Through conversations with his grandmother and grandfather, Mike learns what a hurricane is, how to stay safe during extreme weather, and why storms like Fiona are becoming more intense. His grandmother gently introduces the concept of climate change and explains how warming temperatures affect oceans and weather patterns. The story blends family warmth with environmental education, helping young readers understand both the science and emotional impact of extreme weather. By the end of the story, Mike understands what a hurricane is and what to do and shares what he has learned with his friends, encouraging preparedness, environmental responsibility, and community support.
