An Introduction to Climate Change

An Introduction to Climate Change

This book provides a detailed, science-based exploration of climate and climate change, designed for middle school and high school students. It begins by explaining what climate is, the difference between weather and climate, and how Earth’s climate system works. Students then learn what climate change is, how scientists know the climate is changing, and the role of global warming. The causes of climate change, including the greenhouse effect and human activities, are examined, followed by a discussion on why it matters. The book explores impacts on natural systems, societies, and human health. It also presents strategies to address climate change through mitigation, adaptation, policy, climate justice, and awareness.

A special focus is given to Prince Edward Island, covering rising temperatures, sea-level rise, coastal erosion, extreme weather, impacts on agriculture, fisheries, health, and community life. The book emphasizes local solutions, climate adaptation, and the importance of community education and engagement.
